Are we having fun yet? Weeks of physical distancing, living on top of one another, finding creative ways to connect with colleagues and friends. At the Montfort Group, we’re used to seeing our clients in an office setting and having daily interaction with our fellow therapists. Not knowing when this will end adds to the stress of uncertainty. I’m here to let you in on the benefits of teletherapy – connecting with us from the safety of your own home.
Like you, the TMG team stays connected through texts, emails, Google meet, allowing us to share information, inspiration, and humor – lots of it. Electronic devices can be a saving grace when feeling isolated and itching for some connection. I can’t imagine what life would be like if COVID-19 showed up in the 80s!
With the arrival of this pandemic and shelter-in-place guidelines, tele-everything is everywhere. While essential services, such as medical and mental health, remain open and available, much of the delivery method has now shifted to electronic devices – laptops, phones, and tablets. Psychotherapy is no different and currently, teletherapy is offered by most therapists across the DFW metroplex to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 to themselves and clients.
Of course, we always prefer to see our clients in person when possible but during this time of quarantine, we want to connect with you and make sure you know we are still here. We are taking the utmost precautions and our office remains open but to those that prefer to stay home, teletherapy is an easy and effective way to continue therapy. If you’ve never tried therapy, and need to speak with us during these uncertain times, this is a good way to get started.
Teletherapy is the same as using Skype or Facetime with loved ones but through a HIPAA compliant, secure platform. Appointments are made online or by contacting our office. Give us a call or send an email. We are happy to walk you through the process! You will receive a link for the date and time of your session along with instructions for downloading the app if using a smartphone.
We meet where you are! Work with your therapist in the comfort of your home, car, or office – as long as it’s private and you can connect through your device. Carving out this time for yourself during COVID-19 isolation can be an important part of remaining mentally healthy.
Share. Unload. Process. Give voice to what you’re experiencing. We get it and we’ve got strategies and recommendations for working from home, managing anxiety, and homeschooling. Maintaining a connection with your therapist can help navigate some of the rough waters ahead.
The process remains the same. Instead of meeting in person, you share your concerns over a screen. My clients report that it’s effective and a great way to keep therapy going during this period of social distancing.
The good news is that you’re not alone; we’re all trying to sort ourselves out. Therapists may not have all the answers. I’m sure I don’t. But there are ways to make it a little easier as we search for a new normal. Teletherapy with a counselor can help.
