As a couples therapist in Plano, TX, I often find myself reflecting on the true engine behind all growth and healing: love. Today, my heart is full of gratitude for what I get to witness every day—clients choosing love in the face of pain, distance, misunderstanding, and fear.
So, why is love so powerful in therapy?
Because love is not just a feeling. It is a decision. A verb. A lifelong practice.
In our work at The Montfort Group, we teach love. We watch love unfold. We practice love. We believe in love, even when it feels impossible.
In misunderstood emotions, we teach love through curiosity and compassion.
In moments of sacrifice or forgiveness, we witness love taking root.
In grief or conflict, we practice love through boundaries, vulnerability, and repair.
In crisis, we believe love is still possible—even when it feels distant.
Love isn’t always easy. It doesn’t always feel good. It rarely delivers instant results. But love is the most courageous and transformative work we can do—as individuals, as partners, and as a community.
We may not see the immediate outcome of our efforts, but we trust that love is doing its quiet work underneath it all.
Love is not a mood. It’s not chemistry. And it’s not control.
Love is emotional maturity in action. In our Plano couples counseling sessions, here’s how we define it:
Love is accepting someone’s truth even if it’s not your own.
Love is listening when you want to talk, and speaking when you fear being known.
Love is having boundaries without needing others to change.
Love cannot exist in a space of anger and fear.
Love is forgiveness, not just toward others but also toward yourself.
Love is letting go of being right and learning how to be real.
Love is choosing presence over performance.
Love is the quiet power of an empowered exhale.
Today, I’m thinking of an amazing couple I work with—two people choosing love every day. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. And I know their decision is changing not just their relationship, but the lives of those around them.
This is what real relationship work looks like. This is what couples counseling at The Montfort Group is all about.
Whether you’re in a new relationship, facing conflict, or just longing to feel more connected, we can help.

Because love isn’t just the answer. It’s the work.
