Dating Advice with Cory Montfort
November 11, 2021
What do you think about when you hear the expression ‘date night’? You may need some dating advice!
Often people suffocate the growth of a relationship by defining a destination for a date. Have you thought of dating without a destination?
Suppose you don’t know what kind of feeling you’re after? In that case, it doesn’t really matter the destination, whether you’re at a really nice restaurant or at home watching TV, if don’t know how to find a spark of excitement and adventure. In that case, dating can feel more transactional than playful and connective.
So, how can couples be both present and playful?
In this episode, Laurie sits down with Cory Montfort for a quick chat about how to date your partner by focusing on the feeling instead of the destination with a few tips on finding the spark.
“I really try to remind couples that they didn’t get where they’re at in their relationship on purpose, whether it’s because they feel disconnected or unhappy. They didn’t wake up one day and say, ‘I think we’ll just stop being fun’. The normalcy of being together all the time can kind of take over and make it difficult to feel adventurous and playful. So, it doesn’t really matter the destination if you don’t know how to be together and spark something.”
Hosted by Laurie Poole of The Montfort Group, this podcast pulls back the curtain on what really happens in and around the therapy room. No jargon, no perfection—just honest conversations about the messy, meaningful, and deeply human parts of life. We cover everything from burnout and boundaries to sex, shame, relationships, parenting, grief, identity shifts, and mental health in the modern world. Each episode features licensed therapists who get it—because we live it too.
