The first step of the Create Space process is to Edit. You need to use or love the things in your space or send them on their way. Editing your space can be difficult but Professional Organizer, Babs Golden, is here to help by warning about three common mistakes.
- The first common mistake when editing is premature container buying. How do you know what containers you need until you remove all of the items that do not serve you? Edit first and then see what’s left that needs a container.
- The second most common mistake when trying to Edit is, clients get overwhelmed/bored/anxious about the decision making that is required to Edit and begin shopping/buying decorative items because let’s be honest, shopping is WAY more FUN than editing. The problem with more shopping is it adds more “stuff” to a space which is usually in need of a lot less stuff. Do not shop during the Edit process.
- Another common mistake is, clients try to Edit the whole house/office in a day, or try to work on seven different areas at the same time, get overwhelmed and quit. It takes time to be thoughtful about your Edit.
Remember Edit is step one, Organize is step two so don’t worry about that until you are done with editing your space. Getting rid of your things can be challenging but you will come to find that during this process you will greatly benefit mentally and phsycially.
